Edwina addressed 250 people at the last Carlisle Ambassadors’ meeting at the stunning Halston Hotel in Carlisle. She spoke with great passion about her reasons for taking on this second challenge, following her initial 30 day drive to Beijing.
Edwina and Kate, the original Beijing Biddies, have now been joined by three “Babes”: Liz Tinkler, Helen Stobart and Kerrie Ellison. They depart on their non-stop Arctic Challenge on 24th February, from Carlisle City Centre. The Mayor of Carlisle will be sending them off, along with members of their support team and Carlisle City Council.
After talking about her delight at being part of Carlisle Ambassadors (this is professionally under the name of her beautiful Guest House, Cheskin House in Kirkby Stephen), she talked about the importance of networks such as Carlisle Ambassadors, where the purpose is more than just “talking”. During Give a Day to the City and recent floods we have seen a difference being made to the City and wider Cumbria.
Edwina spoke of the Beijing Biddies’ increased credibility having succeeded in reaching Beijing in 29 days, whilst encountering many challenges along the way. They have increased support and sponsorship for this challenge, and it is fantastic that Lloyds Volvo have sponsored two vehicles, including all the extra equipment required to manage the challenging terrain. AST Signs have wrapped the cars, and many others have supported the ladies in this major adventure to raise money for Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.
It is very exciting that following the meeting, new sponsors in the form of Atlas Communications have come on board. The Beijing Biddies are so grateful to all who have helped to support this challenge, and departure is now only 6 days away!
