Our recent charity walk has helped boost funds for Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Forty walkers, who set out from Kirkby Stephen Hostel on a four, eight or 12-mile hike, raised £700 for our two charities.
We decided to organise the event as part of our continuing campaign to raise money to help in the fight against cancer. It is almost a year since we drove from Cumbria to Beijing in just 29 days in aid of the cancer charities.
Before the walk, we were joined at Kirkby Stephen Hostel by members of the Beijing Biddies fundraising committee, Liz Tinkler, Denise Robinson, Helen Stobart and Audrey Chappelhow, where we all cooked a huge hotpot and apple crumble to feed the hungry walkers on their return.
The walk was a huge success and so was the meal afterwards! Everyone tucked in with gusto after their day of exercise and we are very grateful to all of them for helping us to raise more money.
Commenting on the walk Cancer Research UK fundraising manager, Rachel Speight-McGregor, said: “It was a fantastic day with the weather good to everyone, and it was great to see so many people supporting the two charities”.
Donations are still being accepted. To donate visit the Beijing Biddies Virgin Money Giving page http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=beijingbiddies&isTeam=true
