The porridge-fuelled morning began a little later than planned, but the Beijing Biddies were given a fantastic send off from the wonderful hosts of Grange Caravan Club Site in Durham.
There was plenty of action to keep everyone on their toes, from wrong turnings and road works, to one of the Tuk Tuks suffering a scary stall at a roundabout – at which point it was decided to have a well-deserved hot beverage break at the Croft Hotel in Richmondshire.
The Beijing Biddies arrived at Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre in Harrogate in great time to meet Sarah Grant, the centre’s information and health and wellbeing manager, to discuss their challenge and see some of the magnificent work that is carried out there.
Emma Atkins, who plays Charity in Emmerdale, arrived at the centre to meet the team and also joined everyone for a special fundraising event at Redline Specialist Cars in the evening, in aid of CRUK and Macmillan.
The convoy showed up for their night out suitably suited and booted in thermals and sponsored helmets to enjoy champagne and canapés supplied by Round Table Dining (although the bubbly had to be enjoyed in moderation by the Tukateers!)
With their longstanding relationship, Redline has been a pillar of support for the Beijing Biddies throughout their previous two challenges, so it was only right to continue their efforts this year to help beat children’s cancer.
John Graeme, the owner of the Harrogate centre, said he believes that fundraising challenges like these are vital to help raise awareness and money for such important causes.
Keep it up ladies!
