Our glittering ball hosted by television presenter Helen Skelton has raised a fantastic £13,000 for the Beijing Biddies Charity Challenge!

Helen joined us for the Dickie Bows and Diamonds Ball at the Rheged Centre on Saturday November 29 to help raise funds for Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support.

During the evening guests were given the first glimpse of a documentary which has been made about our drive earlier in the year from Cumbria to Beijing in just 29 days to raise money for the charities. The hour-long documentary of our remarkable journey will have its premiere in Cumbria at the end of January.

Other highlights of the evening included a raffle, charity auction and music from local youth band, the Big Jam Band.

Following the event Helen said: “It was overwhelming, but not surprising, to see so much support from local people and it was great to be involved in raising money for two charities which are close to my heart.

“Big hats off to the organising committee for putting together such a fun night. I have to say that a particular highlight for me was the youth band!”

It was a fantastic night and Helen was a fabulous host.  We want to thank everyone who came along to the ball for their generosity in helping us to raise so much money.

Donations for the two charities are still being accepted.  To donate visit the Beijing Biddies Virgin Money Giving page http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/fundraiser/showFundraiserProfilePage.action?userUrl=beijingbiddies&isTeam=true
