The Beijing Biddies shall go to the Ball

In the last few days we’ve been getting lots of renewed attention about our mammoth Beijing Biddies driving challenge. It’s probably because we’ve been working hard to spread the word about the Charity Grand Ball we’re organising and the local media have picked up on the story.

If you haven’t already seen them, here are just two of the great pieces of recent news coverage:

Lots of people have asked why we are still pushing on with the fund raising and where we get our energy from. The huge wave of adrenalin that got us through the actual driving challenge itself is still very much alive and kicking. Now it’s being fuelled by everyone around us pulling together to help make the ball a success.

What more could we ask for in the way of assistance than to have TV presenter and all round daredevil Helen Skelton joining us on the night – what a fabulous coup!

We are absolutely thrilled that Helen has agreed to host the event. Not only is she local to Cumbria but we admire her adventurous spirit – her challenges make ours look like a walk in the park! She has already given the event a higher profile than we could have hoped for.

Among Helen’s achievements are her high wire walk between the towers of Battersea Power Station for Comic Relief 2011; a 500-mile journey across Antarctica to the South Pole by ski, kite and bike in January 2012 for Sport Relief; followed by becoming the fastest person to travel 100km by kite ski.

Most recently Helen completed the London Marathon this year in aid of Cancer Research UK while interviewing fellow runners along the course.

Commenting on the Dickie Bow and Diamonds Ball Helen said: “I am flattered to be asked to be part of the Beijing Biddies’ event and inspired by what the ladies have already achieved.  Hopefully we can reflect their aspirational spirit by raising a lot of money on the night.”
